Matthew Seidita is a Nidan (second-degree Black belt) in Kodokan Judo, studying under Jacob Powell and Leo Valdes (Ishikawa lineage). He began practicing judo in 2012 at VCU Judo and earned his black belt in 2017. As an educator during the day, he enjoys teaching judo and its fundamental principles, seiryoku-zen’yo (maximum efficient use of physical and mental energy), and jita-kyoei (mutual prosperity, welfare, and benefit for self and others). Matthew also coaches judo at VCU with his brother Jon. Matthew loves being on the mat, and outside judo, you can catch him rocking a white belt (I love being a beginner again) in level 2 BJJ classes.
