After carefully considering the evidence and consulting directly with health officials, we have agreed that it’s in the best interest of all of our students, instructors, and loved ones to close Revolution BJJ for the remainder of March.
Given the declaration of a state of emergency in Virginia, quickly followed by elementary, middle, and high schools being closed for the next two weeks; and after talking directly with ER doctors who are currently on the front lines of this pandemic, we concluded that this was the right thing to do. We are all responsible for preventing the spread of this virus, and while we do not come to this decision lightly (we are all obsessed with training too), the onus is on us to take our own steps to help our society face this head-on, ultimately helping to flatten the curve. Both the long incubation period for this virus and the fact that so much about it remains unknown makes it particularly pernicious. The best available evidence is that preemptive measures are key in order to help stem the spread of viruses like COVID-19. Despite the fact that there have been no known cases that have touched Revolution BJJ students or instructors in any way, we feel that this is an important step for us to take so as to not contribute to the spread of the disease to the vulnerable in our community, and the overburdening of the healthcare system. This is not a decision that was taken lightly, and was made with multiple voices heard.
We are planning to take advantage of the down time to deep-clean the gym, and to shore up some other important cleaning and hygiene projects we’ve been working on behind the scenes. Closer to the end of March, we expect to have more information at hand, so we can keep you informed as to whether we can open up for the beginning of April.
