Dominant Positions

Andrew Smith holding side control on Tyler Smith.

Side control, the mount, the back, and knee-on-stomach can be suffocating, crushing positions if done correctly. They can also lead to a submission.

We’ll focus on maintaining and controlling the position, too: the hidden details people miss. The focus of our level 1, 2, and 4 classes will be dominant positions for the month of November!

October Triangles and Omoplatas

October 2026 at Revolution BJJ sees us turning our study to omoplatas and triangles.

For the month of October 2026, all of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will focus on this powerful position and submission combo. Come learn from a dozen different instructors at 6 AM, noon, or in the evening!

September: Back in the Gi; Armlocks

September 2026 has us back in the gi, and this month is all about armbars. We’ll cover armbars from the guard, back, mount, and other dominant positions, along with a more dynamic understanding of the position itself.

Closed Guard July

For the month of July 2026, all of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will focus on closed guard.

Come learn how to make everyone feel terribly uncomfortable in your closed guard, where you have relentless submission attacks, back takes, and sweeps that are always threatening your opponent. We’ll flip the script and talk about being in the closed guard, too.

June 2026 at Revolution BJJ

For the month of June 2026, all of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will focus on chokes and strangulation techniques.

The choke is the ultimate jiu jitsu finishing move: it ends any fight instantly and beyond doubt when done properly. We’ll cover both gi and no-gi varieties, along with fundamental concepts that apply in every situation, defenses, and combinations.

Open Guard Focus for May 2026

Revolution BJJ turns our attention to a new jiu jitsu focus. All of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will cover open guard.

The guard gets really interesting when you open it up, but it can seem overwhelming. Over the course of the month of May, you’ll gain confidence in flowing from one different type of guard into another, and how to utilize distance and angles to create opportunities to sweep or submit.

April 2026: Kimuras

The monthly theme for April 2026 involves a submission and position that is near and dear to our hearts: the Kimura. All of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will cover kimuras.

While often considered primarily a shoulder lock submission, we consider the Kimura a position too. Over the course of the month, learn how to use the grip to control someone, advance your position, and eventually get the submission.

Revolution BJJ on January 31, 2026

For March 2026, all of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will cover escapes.

Whether you’re a white belt or a black belt, escapes are crucial to your game. Side control, mount, the back, and knee-on-belly are tough enough to escape, but what about triangles, armbars, and all variety of chokes? Things get a lot more interesting with submission escapes. We’ll cover it all.

Passing the Guard: February 2026 at Revolution BJJ

For February, all of our regularly scheduled adult BJJ classes (all level 1, 2, and 4) will cover a new topic: how to pass the guard.

We’re covering how to get the closed guard open, of course. We’re also sharing techniques and strategies to deal with the toughest of modern guards. This will be a very comprehensive month on passing!
